NASSAU DEEP-SEA FISHING, MAHI-MAHI AND WAHOO:

Questions?

NASSAU DEEP-SEA FISHING, MAHI-MAHI AND WAHOO:

Pelagic game fish, such as Blue Marlin, Wahoo, Yellow Fin Tuna, Mahi-Mahi (Dolphin Fish) and Skipjack Tuna tend to prefer deep blue water, hence the term Blue Water Fishing. The rule of thumb is the deeper the water the bigger the fish, yet monster fish have been caught just off Nassau Harbour entrance, you never know when or where a big fish will strike. The Chubasco Charters team are prepared to hook you up and boat your big fish. Billfish and Sharks will be released…. it is now the law.

Close to the top of the ocean’s food chain are Mahi-Mahi, also known as Dolphin Fish or Dorado and Wahoo. These two predators are great fun to catch. When the Mahi-Mahi season is in full swing, multiple hookups are common on most of our Nassau Sportfishing Charters. Most of Nassau deep-sea fishing for Mahi-Mahi and Wahoo center around floaters in the deep blue water on the North and West sides of Nassau and Paradise Island. “Floaters”, the term fishermen call floating debris and sea-grass, act as nurseries for many pelagic species creating a food chain. Where there is food you will find the big ocean predators. Mahi-Mahi are also located by looking for excited birds congregated in one spot feeding off bait fish forced to the surface. During the winter months of November to February Wahoo are found in good numbers along the 1000′ wall off the north and west coast of Nassau and Paradise Island.

When you go sport fishing for big game off Nassau and Atlantis’s Paradise Island, each fishing day is different, you never know what will strike your baits. The ocean is one hard lady to predict and her occupants are just as difficult. At Chubasco Fishing Charters we do our best each and every day on our Nassau fishing charters to ensure your fishing experience exceeds your expectations.

Yellow Fin Tuna Fishing Nassau:

Yellow Fin Tuna start arriving off the North and West sides of Nassau and Paradise Island during late February early March and their migration through the Bahamas continues until late August. This is the hottest big-game fishing time in Nassau. Massive schools of Yellow Fin Tuna ranging in size from 20 lbs. to 80 lbs. migrate through the Bahamas on their way north to the Gulf Stream. They are located by looking for excited birds congregated in one spot diving into the ocean feeding off bait fish forced to the surface by the schools of feeding tuna.

Nassau is famous for its spring and summer run of Yellow Fin Tuna. Pound for pound, they are some of the hardest fighters that swim the ocean. Indeed, Yellow Fin Tuna are true heavy weights bursting with brute strength. They are a tough fighting fish with a fast recovery rate and will fight you until they are boated. They will mix deep dives with long, fast runs to test both you and your tackle.cc

Let’s not forget those plentiful Black Fin and Skipjack Tuna. Although they are the feeders for all the big game fish, catching 5 to 20 pounders on light tackle is a kick in the pants. These babies fight and move like freight trains.

Blue Marlin Fishing Nassau Bahamas:

Marlin fishing is a team sport between angler, captain and mate. Blue Marlin are at the top of the ocean’s food chain, they fear nothing. When marlin fishing in Nassau and you want to increase your chances of releasing a big Blue Marlin, (like the 11′ 3″ 540 lb. one in the photo caught on Chubasco III by Hank and Sandra) selecting an experience crew is crucial.

Yellow and Black Fin Tuna, Skipjack Tuna, and Mahi-Mahi abound in the waters around Nassau during April, May, June and July. They aren’t alone: Blue Marlin love to feast on Skipjack Tuna, Black Fin Tuna, small Yellow Fin Tuna and Mahi-Mahi. The waters off Nassau are teeming with the hunters and their prey during this period. When the Billfish arrive in the waters of the Bahamas to fatten up during their pelagic migration, Nassau big game sport fishing is a pole-busting time.

* in order to protect the Atlantic Billfish stocks, all Billfish (sailfish and marlin) will be released, it is the law. However a lifelike replica of your released Billfish can be produced by Gray Taxidermy.
